Philoptochos

St Luke Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke Chapter 3048

The Philoptochos Society consists of approximately 50 Greek Orthodox women that supports local, national and metropolis activities.  We are a society formed to support the charitable and benevolent purposes of the Orthodox Archdiocese and to aid those in need.

According to the National Philoptochos guidelines we contribute on a monthly basis to a variety of Funds:

  • St. Photios Shrine
  • OCMC
  • IOCC
  • UNICEF
  • Orthodox Christian Mission
  • National Emergency
  • Social Services
  • Retired Clergy and Presvytera Benevolent Fund

At the Metropolis level we contribute to the Academy of St. Basil, Hellenic College Holy Cross Scholarship, and General Medical fund to name a few.

Locally we have a very strong Food Outreach program assisting the Loaves and Fishes of Springfield, MA on a monthly schedule, feeding over 40 families with meats and food baskets during three major holidays, and offering parish and individual local families with holiday food baskets. For our parish family we have a reserve fund for individuals or families in dire need.

The Philoptochos society promotes participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community while also having an ongoing goal of fundraising to support our many committees and charities.  Within the church we sell holiday flowers to adorn the alter during our holidays, decorate the epitophios during our most holy days, decorate the church for Christmas, publish and distribute the holiday Christmas Card, offer a scholarship to our graduates, and support the Church priest in his many efforts.

Since it’s beginning, approximately 75 years ago, the Philoptochos has served the community with love and support through many charities while spiritually enriching its members through their participation in its work.  Our mission is to aid the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widow, the handicapped, the victims of disasters and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts.
